Chiltern Railways launches mobile ticketing system

One of the UK’s leading rail operators, Chiltern Railways, has launched a new ticketing system that will allow users to buy and use their mobile phones as tickets, cutting time on queuing times and paper.

According to abtn.co.uk users will need to download the app which is available smartphones for handsets such as the Blackberry and also will be available on iPhone. The app will be available on Android in the coming weeks.

Once users have downloaded the app they will be able to use the display as the ticket and will be accepted by inspectors and will also open barriers at the train stations themselves.

Ben Whitaker, CEO of Masabi (the firm behind the ticketing technology), said: “This app places a ticket machine in the pocket of mobile phone users – providing an enormously convenient and user-friendly means of searching for train times and then buying and displaying tickets.”
